With the advent of Daylight Savings Time in Israel last week, the student in BL - Girls Town Jerusalem began a new project which all are very excited about. The early advent of evening creates the perfect background for this 12-week program. Partnering with one of the local academic seminaries, volunteers are giving a series of interactive sessions highlighting making choices leading to life-satisfaction. Life satisfaction is a positive concept that affects short- and long-term physical and mental health and will fortify our girls in meeting challenges in their futures.
Most of our girls possess nearly all the “qualifications” for being at-risk. Coming from family backgrounds of unemployment, poverty, addiction, violence and mental health issues, or the tragic loss of one or both parents. These factors pose an increased risk for the child. One of the goals of this program is to introduce and foster ideas that our students in turn can apply to their own lives. The total program divides into four parts dedicating two or three sessions to the following topics: setting challenging but reachable goals; building and sustaining meaningful relationships with a trustworthy adult; making positive contributions to your immediate surrounding/community and avoidance of risk behaviors. Girls Town Jerusalem is proud to be able to take a pro-active approach to a very real threat.
