Tonight, April 20 – marks Yom HaShoah – a global day of Holocaust remembrance. It is certainly insensitive, incorrect and inaccurate to compare living through these harsh times of Covid-19 to the catastrophic times under Nazi tyranny. However, the experience for the children in Girls Town Jerusalem, indeed, for children everywhere, of living during a time of unprecedented disputation of “life as we know it” is a titanic teaching moment. With tremendous sensitivity, through remote access, this point was brought out in the girls’ group discussions.
Across Israel, commemorations will be held “Apart but Together” in keeping with the current regulations of the Israeli government as restrictions are very slowly rolled back in an attempt to keep the “flatten curve” flat.
